Work Related Heart Problems

Unfortunately, a n aspect of the modern li ves that many of us lead , and especially t hose working high pressure jobs, can lead to minor and sometimes major health conditions . The pressure and stress of today’s work life has been the cause of many Americans developing heart problems and in serious cases, having heart attacks. In this modern world, taking care of our bodies and maintaining good health are a normal part of life , but unfortunately so is job-related stress.

Due to increasing numbers of people with heart problems, i t really should come as no surprise that the concept of cardiac rehabilitation is a growing area of study . Actually, this was started almost forty years ago. The concept behind it is relatively simple. L arge group s of similarly affected people get together to discuss and implement ways to start them selves on the road to a healthy lifestyle . This can include dietary changes, or the start of, or taking part in an exercise program. The hope is that these people will continue with the program after the course ends , which will lead to long term gains in health.

The main idea behind modern rehabilitation programs is education. There are lectures during these six to twelve-month program s , during which each person in the class gets to identify and discuss the stressors in their lives, and they are also taught to prepare a nd implement healthy eating practices well. O ne unfortunate aspect of this is that only one in five eligible patients sign up for the courses , even after they’ve had a heart attack. The courses are designed to be proactive as well , that is to head off heart problems before they become life threatening.

The most important factor that needs to be dealt with when it comes to cardiac rehabilitation is diet. There have been many books published on the topic , and almost all of them claim to lead the cardiac patient to recovery . Most of the authors of these books claim that the ir books are the only ones that can tell a person exactly what food will be best for their recovery. Unfortunately, many of these diets are merely fad s, and do not take into account some of the reason s that cause a person to need to go on a cardiac diet. A ‘heart healthy’ diet will promote weight loss, lower your cholesterol, and reduce the risk of having a first or additional heart attack s .

The rules here are quite simple. Eat fewer calories. Know the fat content of everything that you eat , and know how much fat you should be eating. This simple piece of advise can potentially hold off serious heart related problems in the future.
